When Parts of You Feel at Odds

You might notice parts of you pulling in different directions. One part trying to stay in control, another feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or shut down. It can be confusing to understand why you react the way you do, especially when you’re trying to hold everything together.

Starting therapy can bring up hesitation. You may not know what to expect or if it will actually help. This is a space where we slow things down and begin to understand what’s happening inside, without judgment.

Therapy Services

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS helps you understand the different parts of you that show up in your thoughts, emotions, and reactions. Instead of trying to push those parts away, we get to know them and understand what they’re trying to do for you. As that happens, they tend to feel less overwhelming, and you’re able to relate to yourself in a more steady, grounded way.

Anxiety and Depression

You might feel constantly on edge, or like your mind won’t slow down. Other times, things can feel flat, heavy, or distant. It can be hard to feel connected to yourself or find the energy to move forward. There are often different parts of you pulling in these directions at the same time. As those patterns start to make more sense, they don’t have to feel as overwhelming or stuck.

Trauma

Trauma can show up in ways that are hard to predict or explain. You might find yourself reacting strongly, shutting down, or feeling on edge even when you don’t want to. These patterns can feel automatic, like something takes over in certain moments. Over time, those reactions can begin to ease, and things don’t feel as intense.

About David Sorrells, LPC

You might be looking for a way to better understand what’s happening inside you. Not just to manage symptoms, but to make sense of why you feel the way you do and why certain patterns keep showing up.

David is a Licensed Professional Counselor who works primarily through Internal Family Systems (IFS). His approach focuses on helping you understand the different parts of you that shape your thoughts, emotions, and reactions. Rather than trying to push anything away, the work centers on getting to know those parts so they don’t have to take over in the same way.

His work includes supporting clients navigating trauma, identity, and the impact of past environments where parts of themselves may not have felt fully accepted. Therapy is steady, grounded, and focused on helping you develop a clearer, more confident relationship with yourself.

How does IFS help with trauma?

IFS helps you understand how past experiences are still showing up in your thoughts, emotions, and reactions. Instead of trying to push those experiences away, the focus is on getting to know them in a way that feels safe and manageable. Over time, they don’t carry the same intensity, and things don’t affect you in the same way.

Do you work with LGBTQ+ clients?

Yes. This is an inclusive and affirming space for people of all identities. You don’t have to filter or hold anything back here.

Taking The Next Step

Taking the first step can feel uncertain, especially if you’re not sure what to expect. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Just starting the conversation is enough.
